Horizon 2020
Horizon Europe is the EU’s key funding programme for research and innovation, with a budget of 95.5 billion euros. This amount will be disbursed in the form of grants for seven years (2021-2027).
The programme supports the creation and implementation of EU policies in the field of research and innovation in response to global challenges, by enhancing cooperation between the countries, as well as by creating and disseminating new knowledge and technologies.
Horizon Europe Programme is open to legal entities from the European Union and associated countries.
On 7 December 2021, the European Commissioner Mariya Gabriel and the Minister of Science and Education of Georgia, Mikheil Chkhenkeli, signed an agreement granting Georgia the association status to Horizon Europe (2021-2027), the European Union’s research and innovation programme.
The Agreement entered into force on 1 January 2021 and remains in force until the completion of all projects, actions, activities and their components financed under the Horizon Europe Programme. It is important that by signing the Agreement, Georgia undertakes to implement and protect the principles of the European Research Area. Besides, Georgia assumed a financial obligation to participate in the programme. As a result of the association, Georgian researchers, innovators and research organizations can participate in the EU programme worth 95.5 billion euros on an equal basis with the representatives of the EU member states.
