Mission in Kosovo

The Georgian Defence Forces joined the first NATO-led peacekeeping mission – “Kosovo Forces” (KFOR) on 31 August 1999. The mission was intended to prevent the renewal of hostilities in Kosovo, to facilitate provision of international humanitarian aid and the work of the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo.
Georgian infantry platoon joined the KFOR initially as part of the Turkish contingent in the city of Mamusha, and in May 2003, Georgian reinforced company was attached to the German contingent in the city of Prizren.
The Georgian Defence Forces completed their mission in Kosovo in 2008 without fatalities. In all, 17 platoons and 11 companies rotated during the mission.
