NATO 2030 – Making a Strong Alliance Even Stronger “As the world changes, NATO will continue to change“ –Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. In December 2019, NATO Leaders asked Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg to lead a forward-looking reflection process to strengthen NATO. NATO 2030 brought together Allied parliamentarians, civil society, public and private sector experts, and youth to provide fresh thinking on how to support the NATO Secretary General’s work and make NATO an even stronger Alliance.
In June 2020, the Secretary General laid out his priorities for NATO 2030: making sure NATO remains strong militarily, becomes even stronger politically and takes a more global approach. These priorities comprise 9 areas:
- Enhancing political consultations and cooperation between member countries
- Strengthening defence
- Increasing resilience
- Maintaining technological superiority
- Establishing rules-based international order
- Increasing training and capacity building
- Adapting to climate change and coping with challenges
- Developing NATO’s next strategic concept
- Investing in NATO
