The Information Center on NATO and EU under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs awarded the winners of the small projects competition announced to support local initiatives.
It should be noted that the competition attracted great public interest, as evidenced by the number of applications received. A total of 75 project applications were filed, of which five best project proposals were selected through competition from the regions of Adjara, Samtskhe-Javakheti, Shida Kartli and Kvemo Kartli. They will receive the funding worth 5000 USD in total. The selected projects are in line with the goal of the Information Centre to increase the citizens’ involvement in the country’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration, to enhance the level of the population’s awareness about NATO and the European Union, as well as about European identity and values and democratic ideas, to increase resilience to misinformation and to improve media literacy.
Director of the Information Center, Tamara Tsuleiskiri, awarded the winners and expressed the hope that they will make the best use of the given opportunity and cooperate fruitfully with the Information Center.
“This is another important initiative ensuring that we get initiatives from the local population and adapt our capabilities to theirs to the maximum extent possible, taking into account the existing needs. We are glad to see such an upsurge of interest in the competition, and we also have special expectations about this project. On the one hand, we are expanding the scope of communication with our citizens on the issues of NATO and EU integration, and on the other, the successful implementation of your projects is very important, because it is a prerequisite for the continuation of the mentioned initiative in the future,” Tamara Tsuleiskiri said during the award ceremony.
The competition was held within the framework of the project “Increasing Regional Outreach and Engagement Over Western Integration” funded by the United States Department of State. The Project is implemented by the Information Center on NATO and EU together with the U.S. Embassy to Georgia. The project aims to raise the Georgian population’s awareness of and increase its involvement in the process of European and Euro-Atlantic integration of the country.
