Two-day seminar ”NATO-Choice for Peaceful and Stable Development” held in Tbilisi

Two-day seminar ”NATO-Choice for Peaceful and Stable Development” was held for teachers, on 21-22 November. Teachers from both Guria region and Tbilisi participated in the seminar.

The seminar was opened by Rosaria Puglisi, the head of the NATO Liaison Office Georgia, Tamara Tsuleiskiri, the Director of the Information Center on NATO and EU under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Zurab Nasaraia, the state representative of Guria. The speakers talked about the importance of teachers’ involvement in the process of Euro-Atlantic integration and the importance of conveying correct messages to the population about the goals, objectives and benefits of the Euro-Atlantic integration.

“Euro-Atlantic integration is one of the main priorities of Georgia’s foreign policy, therefore, the Information Center on NATO and EU under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia has been working actively for 7 years. We maintain communication with different segments of the population and provide them with maximum information about these processes, NATO institutions, and existing  mechanisms of cooperation. Today’s meeting is held with secondary school teachers of Guria region and Tbilisi. Together with the representatives of the NATO Liaison Office Georgia, we will focus on the issues mentioned above. As a result of this project, a total of 750 teachers have already been trained, which is an important step towards increasing the Georgian population’s awareness on Euro-Atlantic integration” said Tamara Tsuleiskiri while talking to journalists.

During two days, teachers met with experts, representatives of government agencies, as well as NATO and the diplomatic corps, and learned about the history of NATO, NATO-Georgia cooperation, NATO’s role in the South Caucasus, Georgia’s participation in peacekeeping missions, NATO-Georgia partnership in the context of Black Sea security, etc.

The two-day cycle of seminars organized by the Information Center on NATO and EU under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and with the support of the NATO Liaison Office is being held for the seventh year. Within the framework of the project, about 750 teachers from different regions of Georgia were trained on NATO.
